Zitronen Püppies
Zitronen Püppies (Lemon Poppies) is said to be the short and crisp linguistic fusion of punk and hippies, although rumour has it that the aim was to avoid giving people the hundredth Bavarian-sounding band name. The band definitely succeeded.
By the way, this is not about pink Barbie dolls or doe-eyed pouty girls, the Zitronen Püppies are three guys from the Bavarian Forest.
What Johannes M. Haslinger (guitar & vocals), Florian Seemann (bass & vocals) and Alexander Lange (drums) present here are compact pop-rock songs.
And the fact that the Zitronen Püppies don’t deny their punk beginnings – they’ve been around for 10 years now – only makes things better. For sure, one or the other little hippie guitar riff can be found in one of the songs, which is also good, doesn’t hurt at all, on the contrary.
The fact that the lyrics are almost exclusively about the female side of the universe, juggling and playing with the clichés of the other sex, is another special feature of these Zitronen-Püppies songs. And whether this happens in Bavarian or High German really doesn’t matter at all.
