The journey between today and tomorrow, between now and what is to come. Transferred to music, these are precisely the interstices that arise when you pull open genres and zeitgeist drawers and take a risk.
The music of the SEPALOT QUARTET plays in this weightless realm, filling these in-between spaces with a loosely layered fusion of jazz, indie and electronic – always infused with SEPALOT’s hip-hop socialisation. These possibilities of expression are also a sign of the freedom of our time, in which a generation without rival youth cultures has come of age and holds jazz concerts in techno clubs without providing an explanatory model.
The quartet’s first album, A NEW CYCLE, was still limited to the realisation of the already released SEPALOT discography. This live album already provided the foundation for self-discovery on a grand scale. The new album NOWNEXT breathes this spirit and is entirely their own. It delivers a melange of sounds that is as fascinating as it is self-evident, which despite its rich patina does not deny its origins. NOWNEXT is a contemporary album with an international format that draws its rich repertoire from the musical vita of its members (Sepalot, Angela Aux, Fabian Füss, Matthias Lindermayr). Memories, associations and visions are awakened and cast in musical form.
