Maxi Pongratz
Maxi Pongratz commutes between Obergiesing and Oberammergau and is the accordion player, lyricist and songwriter of Kofelgschroa.
Maxi Pongratz’s very own ‘rakata-rakata’ accordion playing, his compositions and not least his dadaistic and valentinesque lyrics have shaped the sound and appearance of the band from the very beginning.
In his early years as a musician, Pongratz baked apple strudel at the Hofbräuhaus, prepared the Kandahar ski slope for the World Cup or toured the country as Don Quixote with the travelling theatre. Later, he was a brother of Jesus during the 2010 Passion Play in Oberammergau and studied classical accordion at the Berufsfachschule für Musik in Altötting (but did not finish).
Musical travels have taken him through Southern, Eastern and Central Europe, as well as to Turkey, South America and the Southern States of America (New Orleans! Austin!).
With Kofelgschroa he released three albums (“Kofelgschroa”, “Zaun” and “Baaz”), all produced by Micha Acher (“The Notwist”). He was seen with the other Kofels in the documentary “frei.sein.wollen” (by Barbara Weber) and heard in Josef Bierbichler’s feature film “Zwei Herren im Anzug”.
Since 2019, Kofelgschroa has been on break and Maxi Pongratz has been touring solo with his accordion. His first album was released in May 2019 by Trikont.
