L’Homme debout
“Vénus”
Venus has always fascinated man as one of the brightest stars in the firmament, which is only visible at dawn and dusk but never in the middle of the night. In the production “Vénus” the Compagnie l’Homme debout invites to a poetic journey into the realm between dream and reality. It is the story of a giant – the company calls him “Vénus”. This Venus man is 7.5 metres high, weighs 80 kilos and consists of 2500 metres of iron wire. Its body surface forms a filigree wickerwork. “Vénus” takes the visitor on a foray through the festival grounds, where images and scenes come together to form a life story. The delicate boundaries between reality and fantasy merge when stories of giants, stories of the little people, of love, the loss of one’s homeland, conflicts and wanderings are told. The image of the human being is magnified as if through a magnifying glass: “Vénus” marches, stumbles, allows itself to walk and straightens up again, rises. Powerful and encouraging. With “Vénus”, the company l’Homme debout from Poitiers in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region has created an impressive street theatre parade in which it takes on the border between fantasy and reality and stages impressive as well as dreamy images.
“Giants allow us to look further, beyond borders, beyond ourselves.”
