Review: Summer Festival 2021

Art

Value giant, 3D artwork, urban art and flying clouds – this is what awaited the audience at the 2021 Summer Festival.

World premiere

WERTGIGANT by HA Schult

STOP AT TOLLWOOD

A world premiere awaited the visitors at the entrance: the giant WERTGIGANT by the renowned object and action artist HA Schult.

HA Schult, an activist and admonisher against environmental destruction and excessive consumption throughout his life, set a sign for “environment instead of unworld” with the six-metre-high sculpture. His credo to this day is: “Only art moves the times.”

HA Schult has been travelling around the world with his 1,000 “Trash People” for 25 years. In 2015, they made HALT at TOLLWOOD. The latest e-waste study by the insurer Wertgarantie says that in one day we produce e-waste for one thousand value giants!
For this, our madness, HA Schult’s WERTGIGANT made its first appearance in Munich at Tollwood.

With HA Schult’s WERTGIGANT, the Change action site and the HoMaBiLe project, Tollwood set an example for more environmental protection and the long overdue social and ecological transformation process.

Artemisia #KeinGradWeiter!Artemisia

Artemisia – that is her artist’s name. Her large-scale 3D paintings have become the epitome of exciting street art. In summer 2021, the renowned artist showed her interpretation of the festival motto “I want because I can, what I have to. #NoDegreeFurther!”

Der Garten der fliegenden Wolken Ludwig Frank TollwoodGarten der fliegenden Wolken (Garden of Flying Clouds)

The Asian-style “Garten der fliegenden Wolken” (Garden of Flying Clouds), designed by Tollwood artist Ludwig Frank, was a small, lovingly staged retreat. A place of harmony and tranquillity – and a garden for the soul.

Ludwig Frank, born in Vienna in 1949, is a long-time Tollwood friend and creative contact with colleagues from Korea and Japan who enrich the festival with their art.
